LAK 17a
The LAK-17a is a modern FAI 15m - 18m class competition glider. It is a midwing sailplane with flaps, T-tail, retractable main landing gear with a large wheel and shock absorber, pneumatic tail wheel and is capable of carrying 180ltr water ballast. All controls, including the water ballast system, hook up automatically.
The sailplane is made of hybrid composite materials such as Kevlar, carbon, and glass fiber. The wing spar is made of pultruded carbon rods. The very high tensile strength of these rods permit an unusually thin and small wing.
The contoured seat pan and an adjustable seat back together with optimally arranged control elements and the in flight adjustable rudder pedals offer notable comfort for pilots of all sizes. The one-piece Mecaplex canopy hinges forward. The instrument panel lifts up together with the canopy, allowing for easy egress also in case of emergency.

The LAK-17a is also available as a self-sustaining powered sailplane. In that case, the glider is equipped with a retractable 19,6 kW (26,28 hp) two stroke two cylinder air cooled SOLO 2350 engine, controlled by an ILEC MCU.
